Warley Place, Brentwood

During my one-week stay in London in June, I'd like to take a day trip to Warley Place in Brentwood, home of Ellen Wilmot, master gardener.

I understand I can catch a train from London Liverpool Street to Brentwood, and then a bus to the pub right near the gates of Warley Place.

Has anyone done this? Is it worth the trip? I've seen photos of Warley Place online and the ruins of the mansion look fascinating. It also might be nice to get out into the countryside for a few hours.

Note that the 289 bus from Brentwood Station to the pub only runs every two hours, so you will want to check the bus schedule and time it carefully!
