Walking Vacations in the UK-Japan

Has anyone planned their own walking vacation in the UK (or Japan)? To start, I'd like to find a book that discusses the trailheads, distances and lodging options. My goal is to walk 8-15 miles a day for 5-10 days. While the paths are not difficult to locate online or otherwise, lodging at the end of the day is. I understand that there are many agencies that will do most of the work, but I'd rather try it on my own, at least at first.

Also, if RS covers walking vacation in one of his books, please let me know. I did hear an excellent RS podcast while driving, but I think that I need a printed version.

Thanks!

Lonely Planet "Walking In Britain" is a really good walking guidebook. My copy is several years old. You may find a copy new or used online. It covers all the trails in Britain, with maps, landmarks for the walk, historical sights along the way, and extra information, such as lodging suggestions. I highly recommend this book.

We have used the appropriate Trailblazer guide for four British walks and will be using the one for the Cornish Coast Path in August. We have been very pleased with them.
