I recently returned from a wonderful trip to the Cotswolds, using Cotswolds Walks. They were fantastic. Next trip we would like to see another part of England, even Wales or Ireland. I enjoyed the fact that the people at Cotswolds Walk are local and I am looking for another small locally owned tour company in a different location with the same philosophy. Anyone had experience with a company they would recommend?
Just finished Wainwrights Coast to Coast walk last week using Contours walking holidays. Was great.
Have a look at Holiday Fellowship Holidays They have bases all over the UK and offer walking holidays. There is a selection of daily walks of different lengths and difficulties.
Hi -
I used Brigantes earlier in the year on the Cleveland Way and am using them again starting on Monday next on the Herriot Way. They were excellent on the Cleveland Way, very thorough, unobtrusive luggage shipping and as we were self guided only ‘there if you needed them’ (we didn’t) .
I’ve used Encounter Walking Holidays in S.W. England when we did The Two Moors Way and they were really good, very helpful and efficient. The walk was some years back and they’ve changed hands re ownership in the last couple of years, but the reviews on their site remain good!

I have used Contours for walking the West Highland Way in Scotland, and other walks in Wales and the Peak District. I found the customer service very helpful and supportive. The lodgings, in most cases, were lovely, small inns, often over pubs. Occasionally, they were old-style Bed and Breakfasts with charming hosts who cooked wonderful breakfasts.
I have used Cotswold Walks and agree they are fantastic. This past spring, I used Muddy Boots Walking Holidays for my adventure in the Yorkshire Dales. They also have holidays in the Lake District. They were fabulous. A small local walking company, with Helen as the contact person, was very responsive. The tour pack was waiting upon reaching the first lodging. Along with the daily walking directions, it contained a few nice surprises: a metal water bottle, flapjacks, a packet of fudge, and a small container of shampoo. This coming spring of 2026, I am walking the South Downs Way. I found South Downs Discovery to plan my arrangements. Paul, the contact person, is very responsive.
I have used HF Holidays (Holiday Fellowship Holidays) for a multi-day, self-guided, house based trip in the Highlands and InnTravel for a multi-day, inn to inn trip on Lago Maggiore. https://www.inntravel.co.uk/. I would travel with both again.
We’ve used Contours Walking (contours.co.uk) several times — Hadrian’s Wall, Kennet & Avon Canal, a short 4-day trip, and the Cotswold Way. They are a pleasure to work with & will adapt their standard itineraries to meet what you want. They have been responsive during our walks when we had questions & listen to feedback. They are in Matlock.
We’ve added extra days, started & stopped in different places, etc.. We’re looking at the Thames Path (200 miles) for a future trip. BTW: The canal walk was exquisite & we became quite skilled at helping to open & close the locks to help the boats along.
Celtic Trails is based in Wales and can help you in that area. They arranged our 6-day walk of the Offa's Dyke Path and did a great job.
Mickeldore is based in the Lake District, I think. I haven't used them, but have heard good things about them.
Have fun deciding where to walk next!
