Walking along the Jubilee Walkway

If we walk at a pace a little faster than a "mosey", how long would it take to get from Westminster Bridge to Tower Bridge? We've never been to London and thought this walk would be a good way to battle some jetlag on our first day. We plan to take the boat to Greenwich, check out that area, then boat back to Westminster Pier and call it a day. We are travelers who LIKE to have full days. The next day we will start our RS Best of London tour.

Google says about 2 1/2 miles of walking between those bridges. My daughter and I walked a lot of the area around Jubilee gardens, on the bridges, just kinda "lost" ourselves for a while. (rode the Eye, did a Thames cruise too). The best part was the carnival atmosphere around Jubilee Gardens, the street performers, the artists selling their paintings, etc. London is awesome! Have fun!

We spent 3 weeks in London last May, in an apartment a bit past Tower Bridge. We love the walk you describe and did it many times. I would estimate 40 minutes if you move right along. Would you catch the boat to Greenwich at the City dock near Tower Bridge?

I do this walk often. Didn't know it had an official name, I thought it was just strolling along the south bank. There is loads to see and do along the way - The Golden Hind, City Hall, Southwark Cathedral, HMS Belfast, Borough Market, Tate Modern, the Globe, views of St Paul's Cathedral, Gabriel's Wharf, the National Theatre etc etc etc

Anyway, the walk could take 40-60 minutes, or all day....

All of what I have read is that a "typical" walking speed is about 3 MPH

So, to go from A to B, ( assuming google is correct) about an hour. If you stop and gawk.......

Yes, that's where I was planning on us catching the boat to Greenwich at Pier 3, Tower Bridge area. I think we will take the boat all the way back to Westminster Pier.

Excellent! We love the river boats for transport. One day we walked to Greenwich from our apartment by Shad Thames, then on to North Greenwich Pier as we wanted to see the Prime Meridian without paying to go into the observatory. The last part of the walk was "interesting" ( lots of construction) but the boat ride back past Canary Wharf and all the new buildings was great.

For me, this is 'the' walk in London and I do it regularly. Jane mentioned many of the things to do along the way, and there are even more than those. You could easily spend all day wandering along and that walk probably deserves to be something done in its own right, rather than dashing through to take the boat. But if time doesn't permit, and weather allowing, you will have a taster of the South Bank, and hopefully chalk it down for some attension on a future visit.

I know we will spend some time on the 6th day of the RS tour walking part of this again! If I know myself there will be lots of pictures taken in this "walk" ;)
