VRBO or Airbnb in London

I am traveling to London April 20-27 with my adult niece to visit her daughter who is doing a study abroad in London. We would like to find a nice two bedroom rental in the zone 1-2 area. If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate your input. I'm not sure what are the best areas to rent in. We want to be able to explore London and if we are out at night feel safe returning to our lodging without having to walk in unsafe areas. I have seen some rentals in the zone two area but I'm just not sure about getting around. Any information would be helpful. This is my first time in London in 20 years.

I’m going to suggest you research 63 Bayswater.

You could go with 2 beds in one room or book to single rooms. Breakfast is included in a the price. Lancaster Gate Underground station, 5 minutes away. Paddington Station 15 minute walk. Hyde park is across the road from 63.

Been staying here for decades. Safe, clean, and fair price for one of the most expensive cities on the planet.

Vrbo (they seem to have stopped using all caps now, and are calling themselves “ver-boh,” rather than v-r-b-o) has always been my preference, over Airbnb, for London and everywhere else. For a one-week visit to London, stay in central Zone 1. That is, unless your niece’s daughter’s been living in a particular spot and the two of you might want to look for a place close to her.

I used VBRO last year in London when traveling with my son and it worked well for us. I checked where we stayed and it doesn’t have availability for your dates. You may have left this a bit late for the best selection.

If you do want an apartment, I suggest you look at serviced apartments in an “Aparthotel” rather than owner-direct rentals through VRBO or AirBnB. Although I do use those platforms for owner-direct rentals elsewhere, I do not for London, as there are too many potential pitfalls.

Apartment hotels are like regular hotels in that they have a reception desk and other amenities, but you get a regular apartment with separate bedrooms and full kitchen. There are a number of companies that offer several locations in London, such as Citadines, StayCity, Native, Marlin Apartments, and others. These are all reputable, well-established companies.

I particularly like Marlin Queen Street in the City of London, close to St. Paul’s and the Millennium pedestrian bridge. They have 2 bedroom apartments or one-bedroom with sofa bed in the living room. The area is very safe, and attractive.

The closest Tube stop is Mansion House, a block away, and Monument and Cannon Street are nearby. Or you could use our preferred transport, the No. 15 bus that runs east-west between the Tower of London and Trafalgar Square, connecting many historic and cultural sites.

My last visit to London, we used a company called A Place Like Home www.aplacelikehome.co.uk Really good experience with them, the place was lovely - we stayed in South Kensington, close to two different Tube stops. They seem to have a good amount of availability during your dates.

following up on Lola's suggestions, there is the Marriott Residence Inn chain and I'm sure Hilton has similar.
