I have never been to the observatory but having traveled with our daughter, the Tower of London and the British Museum would be my top 2 choices.
Edited: Also tea-at the right place, it can also be dinner.

The Tower of London, Westminster Cathedral, Kew Gardens Light Display, St Paul for the "Echo" in the Dome. Shopping Downtown. Shopping Street Markets. Riding a Bus. Riding the Underground. Going to the Theatre. Go to a church for special music services. Check open times and make reservations.
