We are planning a trip to visit English gardens in late May. We would appreciate any suggestions on the best way to get around without a car, any tips on guided tours or any suggestions on which grades to include. We love flower gardens. Many of the gardens we are researching seems be in challenging places to access. Many thanks1
Public transport via the tube or busses
I’d add Syon House, Kyoto Gardens and Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park.
whereabouts in England will you be?
Hi, I’m in the process of planning our trip next year, and seeing some special English gardens is high on my list. Here’s a link of a shuttle bus to go to the Wisley Gardens from a nearby train station. (I will be bookmarking your post to hear other gardens that can be seen without a car.)

Where are you visiting?
The best gardens tend to be in rural areas, where public transport is poor. Visiting most gardens will involve a train ride and then a taxi or local (possibly infrequent bus).
Sorry, I don’t seem to be able to copy the link, but if you Google the BBC magazine gardenersworld.com and look on the 2-for-1 entry, it shows gardens near cities, which is probably your best option.
Some of my favourite gardens include Hidcote in the Cotswolds, Great Dixter in East Sussex, Sissinghurst in Kent, Wisley near Woking, Hyde Hall near Chelmsford, Sheffield Park in East Sussex, the Lost Gardens of Helligan in Cornwall, Kew in south London and Bodnant in north Wales.
