Visiting end of December/early January

Which places should one visit other than London during end of Decemeber and 1st week of January?

Stonehenge vs Avebury
Lacock
Bath
Windsor

or any other recommendations?

We are comfortable traveling on own using trains and buses and and are also OK booking tours if recommended. We have done both during past travels. Appreciate the input.

All of them but know sun will set by 4pm. Plan accordingly.

Why are you interested in Lacock? The Abbey? Double check it’s website for opening and closing hours.

Weather could be a factor but no way to predict when and if there would be rain.

As far as other places:

Bletchley Park
https://bletchleypark.org.uk/

Hampton Court Palace

Have you watched any of Call The Midwife Series?
Visit here if you have: https://thedockyard.co.uk/?srsltid=AfmBOoo9M_60mFBbFv_RA4RNp9V4V8i-xkTHdAbUZeugbkX5OKKVi-U7

I’d also train to Rye or Whitsable.

Greenwich, Oxford, Cambridge, Brighton could also be day trips by train.

We enjoyed Christmas at Kew during a pre-pandemic trip. It looks like this will year the lights will be up until January 5. And a second vote for Bletchley. I found it a fascinating place.

I concur with the Bletchley suggestions. It's an easy train journey from London and fascinating. While i haven't been to the museum of Computing (about the history of Computing) that shares the site, my parents have and they enjoyed it as well.

Be aware that there is no public transport - with very few exceptions - on Christmas Day, reduced services on Boxing Day, some services shutting down early on Christmas Eve, light service on New Years Day.

A number of attractions will be closed between Christmas and New Year - check first.

Revised bus and Underground service on New Years Eve in London.
