Visiting Chattsworth via public transport - from what town/village?

I'm planning to visit various locations (by train/bus if I can). They include Cambridge, Stamford, Leicester. I couldn't tell the most reasonable way to see Chattsworth from those or other train/bus accessible towns/villages in the area.

Or should I try renting a car in Bakewell for a few hours to make getting there easier?

Many thanks.

The Chatsworth House website gives details of which bus routes you can use.

Note also: "Please be aware that during Chatsworth Country Fair [which seems to run the last week of August] no buses will stop at Chatsworth. All buses that normally stop at Chatsworth will stop at the Edensor bus stop."

Since you appear to be open to hiring a car , I would suggest that , A car will make access to Chatsworth and other sites in the Peak far easier and less time consuming than waiting for buses , Places like Matlock Bath , Castleton , Bakewell , Haddon Hall , and Baslow are well worth a visit during your stay . Take some time , and watch this highly informative and detailed documentary about Chatsworth , it is well worth the time - https://youtu.be/Rw54CrzpR-4
