I need to get from Edinburgh to London on Friday, August 26, 2016. The Virgin east train website says that tickets aren't available for that day. You can get tickets for the 25th and 30th but not the 26th-29th. Is it because the 29th is a bank holiday?

Mon 29 August is a bank holiday, so tickets not yet available. Certain other dates e.g. 26 Aug. are also not on sale yet.

The lack of tickets at a bank holiday weekend when they are available afterwards is often a sign that some engineering works may be going ahead. May be worth checking this out.
