I’m heading to Windsor for the day and my 19 year old wants to stay in London for a day of shopping. She loves all things vintage so does anyone know of the best spots? I was already thinking Brick Lane.
Hi J,
Yes Brick Lane would certainly fit the bill. Recommend the blocks immediately above and below the Truman brewery (a multi-purpose complex on both sides of the lane created from a historic brewery). *If memory serves, both the Vintage Emporium plus Vintage Heaven are (or were) located near there. She could do 2-fers in that area, such as:
-Dark Sugars (chocolate shop)
-street art central (this was Banksy's old stomping grounds before it became gentrified)
-Spitalfields market
-Boxpark food court: a popular assortment of eateries all joined within a stylish grouping e.g. Acai Berry (Brazilian juice/ice).
-Dishoom Indian restaurant.
-competing historic (affordable) Beigel shops i.e. Beigel Bake
-Dennis Severs House (a private museum of Huguenot historical recreations--VG--must sign up ahead).
-Spitalfields City Farm: a funky-boho urban farm; fun for all ages inc. 19 yr olds tired from shopping who want to just chill at an out-of-the-way cafe.
-Ten Bells pub.
-Burro e Salvia cafe (a Rick Steves fave)
Hope she has a good time wherever.
I am done. The end.
Camden Market?
Thank you all for the suggestions! Much appreciated!!
Look for Oxfam shops around London.
It's a charity organization. All proceeds go for good work, feeding and housing the poor, sick, and disabled.
The items are donated, but are culled to be of high quality; designer dresses old and new, shoes, boots, purses; a real treasure-trove of things from people's attics and closets.
