V A cancels direct flights between Austin TX and London

V A is canceling direct service between Austin and London in January

Apparently it did not quite work out to V A's advantage. V A had believed they would be getting a lot of high tech business travel but not so. Companies are supposedly laying off people. (Perhaps there is also more virtual business meetings and less in person????)

That might explain why V A kept changing my flight even flying me in 24 hours early and it was an old plane that was used.

I wonder who Delta will now use when someone books through them.

And I guess that B A is going to see an increase in the Austin to London business

Well, Delta will use Delta flights to take people to their big international hubs like Atlanta or JFK or Minneapolis or Detroit. Just like they do from dozens of cities all over the US. Since I haven't lived in an area with direct flights to Europe in 25+ years flying to a hub seems normal to me. If there isn't enough business for Virgin to continue their non-stop service then I'm not sure there will be a huge uptick in BA customers.

Yep, it's all about the numbers. If there was a market for Virgin, they would have stayed.

Virgin Atlantic are an airline that is used primarily by holidaymakers, it doesn't seem to attract much in the way of business passengers that British Airways does. As Austin is not on many UK traveller's radar it's probably the reason why VA are dropping the route.

VS have always had a large churn rate in destinations. Some other short lived North American ones include Vancouver and Detroit.
