Using the London Underground in the next few days

Due to the wholesale elimination of London Underground staff and the closing of all the ticket offices, RMT (the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers Union) is striking against the London Underground. From late Saturday this weekend, all Sunday, and Monday.

The strike is by station staff.

The strike does not involve drivers so TfL (Transport for London - who are the employer) will try to run tube trains. The effect of the strike will be late opening, early closing, or complete failure to open some or many or most stations so the public will be unable to access any trains that may be running. It is unknown if drivers will have to pass any picket lines.

Buses and DLR are unaffected.

Thank Nigel. Wow, eliminating all staff and closing the ticket offices! I realize the tourist segment of the ridership is small but this seems pretty grim for visitors.

They are closing the ticket offices because very few people use them, and those same staff will now be wandering around the station. Little change really... But a nice excuse for a strike.

It will be difficult for the 800 plus staff being eliminated to walk around the station helping.

For example, at Leytonstone where the "You're no Muslim Bruv" terrorist attacked and was foiled there used to be 4 members of staff at peak time. That will be one, and another on the dispatch.

And with the Night Tube coming soon now, I'm not sure I would be happy in an understaffed Underground station in the middle of the night.

That action has now been suspended postponed.

No, it wouldn't have done as they are different from the London Underground and nothing to do with TfL.
