Wondering if anyone has used an e-sim on an iPhone in England & any recommendations for a provider. Plus, did you download from home (U.S.) or go to a store. Thanks.
I have used the Airolo eSim on my iPhone in England last December and will be using it again this December. They have a data only version that starts at $4.50 for 1GB data for 7 days or 2GB data for 15 days. They also have an eSim for Data/Calls/Text (I bought this last year) starting at $5.50 for 1GB data, 10 min calls, 10 SMS for 7 days or 2GB data, 20 minutes calls, 20 SMS for 15 days for $8.50.
I made calls, sent texts, and used data for navigation. You have the ability to top off if you need more capacity while you are traveling i downloaded at home. You cannot activate until you are in country.
Note: check to see if your phone qualifies as it does need to be unlocked.
Another vote for Airalo. Worked great for me.
Have a look at giffgaff - their basic pay as you go option is £10 for 15GB (valid for 1 month) plus unlimited UK calls and texts.
Thanks, everyone. Question about Airalo – does it include a UK phone number?
Does it include a U.K. phone number?
Yes, if you choose a UKI+ plan for the U.K. (I assume it's a U.K. number). As little as $5.50 for 7 days with 1 mb. data., or $11.00 for 30 days with 3 mb. data.
I had a look at the Airalo eSIM plans that have an allowance for phone calls. Kinda skimpy but may suffice for your needs.
I used giffgaff for my trip earlier this year. On iPhones you buy and install via their official app. I set it up just prior to leaving for London. It seemed to hang for a bit so I just let it run. The service was up and running shortly after arriving at Heathrow. I suspect the last step was trying to connect to Giffgaff’s UK cellular network. BTW Giffgaff plans have EU roaming for those who need it.
One more vote here for giffgaff. In my opinion it's the only choice for anyone who'll be in England for more than a few days.
