Hi, everyone--In Rick's London book, he suggests taking a train from London Euston to Watford Junction in order to catch a shuttle for the tour. He also recommends the 7-day travel card for zones 1-2 (where most of my travel will be) and purchasing a supplement for anything outside those zones, such as Heathrow and, I guess this studio. Can someone give me tips on adding supplements? Is it easy to do with an oyster card machine? Thanks!
Our family made the trip to Harry Potter Studio tour in 2016. We used our Oyster card to Watford Junction and then caught the shuttle for the tour. If I remember correctly, the shuttle is free if you show your tour ticket.
You want to look at the London Transport website (tfl.gov.uk).
If you have the travel card on an Oyster you simply need enough pay as you go credit on the Oyster to cover the out of zone fare.
The reference to 'purchasing a supplement' though sounds more like using a paper card, where you need an additional ticket from the boundary of Zone 2 to Watford Junction.
Thank you so much! Both replies are quite helpful. Just so I know, how does one find out the extra fare I will need? Do I estimate or consult a person at the ticket window? P.S., there will be two adults and my son who is 13.
Look at the Single Fare Finder on the Transport for London website.
The last time I went to the studios,, the amount charged to my PAYG was £1.80 each way. It's been a couple of years, so it may be £2 or so now.
You will need cash to pay the shuttle driver, £2.50 each, last I saw, and you will need to show your tickets or email confirmation to get on the shuttle.
Oyster card PAYG only has daily capping, so 7 days of that, even 6 is more that a 7 day travel card. However, you might not hit the cap every day depending on what you do.
Yes, weekly cap is currently for bank cards only, not Oyster PAYG. (OP as an American probably won't be able to use bank card contactless on TfL)
