Would like to ask if anyone has used Costco to arrange rental cars in UK and Ireland. If so did you have any issues? Secondly I would plan to use my Costco attached Visa card for covering the rental cost. It appears like it would cover damages to the car but I’ve read where for their coverage to be in effect across the board I would need to decline any and all insurances, including any that might be included in the base rate. Or, is it just better for the peace of mind to buy all the insurances from the rental company? Looking forward to and appreciate any and all advice. Thanks.
We have used Costco travel to rent two suvs at the Heathrow enterprise location and returned the vehicles at Gatwick. No issues with the rentals and excellent service plus a free upgrade for one vehicle. We relied upon our own credit cards for coverage and my sister did blow a tire on a hidden stump encountered on a narrow road (the “left drift” is a real issue). It took a couple of months to work through the process, but her Visa card covered the expense as promised by the card conditions (about $400 out of pocket). We recommend costco travel. We have heard positive reviews for Arnold car rental and encourage you to compare pricing.
I'm not personally interested in having something happen and then I have to deal with an international situation with a car and trying to sort it all out with insurance. I just want to walk away. It really comes down to what you think you will be willing to deal with just in case. But maybe renting through Costco and using their card adds an extra layer of convenience.
This is more general, as we've only rented a car once in the UK. We use Costco for all domestic rentals but have never been able to find a way to reserve an automatic through their website when renting a car internationally. So when in France not long ago, I went directly with Enterprise. Someone recently posted that they call Costco Travel when they make reservations for international rentals.
(Maybe you want a stick shift and none of this matters!)
