US Tourists Follow Satnav - see What Happens in Tenby Wales!

The Welsh press are reporting that American tourists following satnav instructions in Tenby got stuck and had to climb out through windows. Did they not realise that this is an old town and they might end up on narrow streets? This is the second time that US tourists have come to grief in Tenby. The previous time they put Caldy Island into the satnav & got stuck on the beach. Presumably they thought they could drive across the sea to an island?

You can see the kind of town Tenby is in this video (nothing to do with me).

(I have put this under England as it appears not many people read the Wales forum on RS judging by the number of queries).

I do have a bit of sympathy - on the one hand absurd, on the other hand, having recently driven for week in Devon and Cornwall as a Canadian (US/ Canada cars, roads and rules are identical) there were plenty of roads I turned onto that I initially would have judged as a walking path not a driving path but no, they actually were roads for cars, trucks and even buses!

"There’s normally a bollard on the footpath but that was out at the time, and they went onto the footpath.""

The article also says this.

Thanks for the link. It sounds like the mechanics did a great job extracting it!

But how did the driver get out of the car?

Through the boot?

I have zero sympathy and I hope she got a fine for driving like an idiot (not sure if that is the correct legal term) in addition to having to pay to fix the car. It looks the RNLI station in the background in the article, in which case she was driving on this footpath: https://youtu.be/yEnGe_Qu_Ik?si=34S6FREGHTY4LEQ2&t=192 and I believe we can see the place she was stuck at around 5:20.

I have no idea how she managed to get the car up there in the first place, but one thing I'm really fed up with is tourists renting cars and then driving like idiots. And blaming the sat nav is no excuse.
