underground, oyster card and jersey boys

hi.

arrived in London today. please enlighten me on the oyster card. how much is a regular one-way ticket on the underground and when is the oyster card worth getting?

we also want to watch the jersey boys. I understand it is not in prince edward anymore but in Piccadilly theater. we would like to take advantage of the cheap tickets that are bought on the day itself and at 10 in the morning. where can we buy these cheap tickets now that it is now in Piccadilly theater. the cheap tickets used to be in Leicester square.

thanks a lot. appreciate it.

hi emma,

we're staying close to the Victoria coach/train station. we're staying 4 nights/3 full days.

day 1: we plan to walk to the parliament/Whitehall sts to Trafalgar square; visit st martin of the fields/national gallery; if cheap tkts are still in Leicester square, perhaps continue there and/or visit Piccadilly theater to check it out. return to hotel either by walking or by underground.

day 2: in the morning, walk to piccadilly circus to buy the cheap tickets to jersey boys; wait for 3pm show; walk back to hotel or underground.

day 3: nothing much except perhaps hear mass in st martin of the fields; walk one way, underground the other.

day 4: take bus to Stansted airport but I don't know if oyster card works here.

thanks.

The discount theatre ticket booth is in Leicester Square, not Piccadilly Circus. You want the free standing stone kiosk in one corner of the square, there are imitation theatre booking agents around in storefronts.

However, I would not assume that tickets for a specific show, especially a high-profile musical like Jersey Boys, will be available - the Half Price Ticket Booth started out as a way for theatres to dispose of unsold tickets, and internet booking has meant that they have a different route to do that, and that fewer tickets go unsold anyway.

Actually Jersey Boys was on discount for tonight - but not half price, nearer two-thirds. Saturday though is currently full price.

There may be some sold at the theatre itself on the morning.

thanks emma, Philip, marco.

it helps to learn from folks who live in the area.

we will get the oyster card. will check out Leicester square for the stone kiosk. not good that there are scam tkt booths.

guess what? we were able to buy jersey boys tkts for today, Friday, at 29.50 each. it was more expensive Saturday so we watched it today. it was great. then, walked all the way home to our hotel.

thanks.
