UK Train Travel

Planning two train trips in UK for my wife and I (both in our 60's) the latter part of May. My research suggests the Travel Two Together or the Senior Railcard are equivalent costs at 1/3 off normal pricing and best options. Trip 1 is London to York, and trip 2 is York to St. Andrews.
Am I on the right track or does anyone have a suggested better option.
Thank you in advance for your help.

You will pay twice as much for two senior railcards as you will one Two Together railcard.

It is cheaper to book tickets on line before you travel. Really cheap fares are published about 12 weeks before date of travel. Ticket prices do vary during the day, depending on how popular a train is likely to be. Chosing the 'right train' can save quite a bit of money! Another bonus is that when you book your ticket, you also reserve a seat too.

Both Railcards cost £30 so the Two Together ones offers best value to you. You cannot use it for morning peak time travel during the week. That until after 9.30
You need to spend more £90 before you save money. So you need to do the maths.
The tickets you need to look for are called Advance Singles where you have to travel on booked train
I am seeing fares from London to York in May from £15.00 each in May
You need to book these tickets now to get the best fare
It appears the best way to St Andrews is train to Leuchars then bus. Best to book tickets to Edinburgh from York from £22.40 then buy separate combined ticket to St Andrews, train and bus but cann't see details. Hopefully a local will assist
Suggest you consult www.seat61.com for information on rail travel in UK including how to book tickets from abroad

Are those the only times you will be on trains? How do you get back from St Andrews? Do you fly home from Edinburgh?

The Two Together is a better deal if you are always together on the covered trips, and as long as you don't want to travel during morning rush hours...

You can use the card on "Advance" tickets too, but I think if you can get nice cheap tickets you may struggle to make the Railcard pay.

The more trips you take the more you save...

Thanks to all for your helpful suggestions. Much appreciated.
To the last responder, we fly from Edinburgh to Shannon, Ireland for a golf tour, then home to the US,
