Hi, my husband and I are planning a England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland trip for 3 weeks in late August and September this year. We would love to make this like the road trip that we take here in the USA. What are some must see things to do? Also I would love to see a football game while we are there, hopeful Liverpool or Manchester United, is there any tip on how to get tickets to a game? Thank for any advice.
Without more details, it’s kinda hard to answer. The classic USA road trip ain’t gonna happen in the UK. There’s very few places in the U.K. you’re going to get on the motorway, set cruise control and crank up the tunes. if this is your first time, which it does sound like, I’d eschew the car and just use trains. Cars are a pain in city centres.
For football tickets, you’ll have to buy hospitality tickets which are expensive if available. These are tickets where you pay a fortune to get a pregame meal or something and then a game ticket. Don’t even think of using a resale site and you won’t be getting tickets from the club directly.
I have no idea what the Qatar World Cup will do to the schedule or even if it’ll happen with all the stuff going on in that region of the world. Typically the season would start mid August, however. More information should be available in summer.
You are trying to cover too much ground. Certainly forget about Ireland.
Don't forget that RS lists Scotland & Wales separately in this forum.
Under ‘Trip Reports’, an American who did a driving tour of Wales has recently loaded an excellent & detailed report - well worth a read:>https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/a-wales-road-trip
