UK 10 days itinerary

Hi Please comment on the itinerary for 10 days in June. travelling with wife and kid
7th June 18:00 hours arrival at LHR- reach Ilford (friend's house by midnight??)
8th June- afternoon on the way to snowdonia.
9th June -snowdonia
10th June- Return to london
11th June- stay in london (rest)
12th June- TRavel to edinburgh
13th and 14th June-Explore areas around edinburg
15th June- Back to london
16th and 17th June- day trips from london (Please suggest easily accessible through public transportation)
18th June- early morning flight back to India
We would like to see more of areas of natural beauties (hills, beaches etc.) and less in arts and museum. If we want to reach highlands in Scotland, should we go directly to Iverness from London or are there places nearby which can be accessed by public transportation. I'm not too fond of driving. Also should we try to squeeze in lake district by removing snowdonia?

Why would you go all the way from London to Snowdonia for 1 full day only to return south to London before then going north to Edinburgh? It just does not make sense! If you were going to do this, you would go to Snowdonia - and spend longer in this area, then to Chester before proceeding north to Scotland.

You are trying to cover too much ground in the time you have available.

Look at back posts in the Wales & Scotland forums to learn more about these areas.

Spend more time in Wales if you like natural beauty. You can take the train from London and stay overnight in Chester and then have a quick drive to Snowdonia. Wales has several fantastic medieval Castles. You could easily spend a week. If you don't like driving, maybe Wales isn't for you. You can then train from Chester to Edinburgh. Edinburgh Castle is worth the visit. There are several day tours from there. Inverness might be a good idea for you since it too has several day tours. You can take a train from Edinburgh to Inverness. Then take the train back to London. You might be pleasantly surprised at some "living" museums. The UK has world famous art and museums that you might actually enjoy. Not all are stuffy and some have live theater and music events.

It's not "pooh poohing all the art and museums" to say that you, personally, are more interested in other things.

Hi All
Thanks for your replies
I'm actually thinking of spending 2 nights and 3 days at Wales . Thinking about snowdonia only at that point of time. Seems like it make sense to hire a car.
For Edinburgh, can someone suggest
1) which area should i stay in Edinburgh ? I'm thinking of taking self-catering apartments with my wife and son. Apart from airbnb what other options should i look for getting budget apartments.
2) where can i get pointers to 3-4 days in and aroud Edinburgh. Since, I 'm travelling with son (4 years old), I've a hard time in finding the tour companies which can take you to the highlands, as kids are not allowed

This itinerary seriously needs a rethink from beginning to end. It seems like you're spending all your time in transit, and that's after a long flight from India. Pick one, at the most two, areas to focus on. I'd either focus on London with perhaps one day trip or else Edinburgh with one day trip. Moving around all the time does nothing but waste time. Going to London and then heading to Edinburgh is insanity.

I agree your proposed itinerary is chaotic and will leave you exhausted and frustrated. You are going to be seriously jetlagged arriving from India.

With so few days to spend, I would say to stay in London for the first 3-4 days to acclimate, then head to Wales. Do not try to fit in Scotland too.

You can enjoy the natural beauty of Wales for the remainder of your time and return to London on the 17th, or leave Wales on the 14th or 15th and work your way back toward London with stops in one or two attractive destinations like Bath, Oxford, Windsor.

Do stay in a hotel right near the airport the night before your flight, to reduce the risk of any transportation mishap.
