My 2 adult children (one of whom is moderately disabled) are going with me to England in June. After a few days in London we're going from our hotel in Heathrow to one in Salisbury. As I'll be carrying my luggage plus my daughter's, I'm wondering if it's easier to uber straight to the hotel rather than go through the several transfers needed to do this by rail. After Salisbury! it's the same thing going to Dover. Considering there are 3 of us for one uber fee vs 3 rail tickets, is the uber option in the same ballpark as travelling by rail? Thanks for any help and advice!
Heathrow to Salisbury is only one transfer, at least from Terminal 5. It is the coach-bus 730/731 to Basingstoke railway station then train to Salisbury.
The bus driver will look after your luggage and stow it in the hold, and you can pre book assistance at Basingstoke and Salisbury stations.
The bus changes number at Frimley, but you stay on it and buy a through ticket.
The bus ticket is £4 each until the end of 2024 when it becomes around £20.
Rather than Uber, where you won't know the cost until you order it, why not look into a prebooked car service. They pick you up at your hotel near Heathrow and drop you at your hotel in Salisbury. You will know the cost when you book. It will also be a lot easier considering your situation. (Sometimes paying a bit more for convenience and ease trumps finding the cheapest way.)
Uber does have a reserve system in the UK. One of the most popular car service companies on this forum is Blackberry Cars. I'm sure others will be along with more suggestions.
I would never use Uber for a pre-planned journey. When I have considered it in the past I found the quoted prices to be ridiculously high compared to other pre-booked services. I've also found some Uber drivers to be highly unreliable, either not turning up or cancelling at the last minute.
Uber has become my last resort of travel choice due to their poor service, unreliability, surge pricing and frequent trip cancellation in pursuit of a more lucrative fare.
