Has anyone used Uber in the countryside? I was told that the U.S. app does not work there. Is that true? If you have used it, what was your experience? Thanks.
You are more likely in the countryside to deal with a local private hire company than Uber.
Thanks, Marco. Last year was our first ever without having a car. We had a taxi take us from York to Howard Castle. They did not want to commit to a time to come back and pick us up. We had to call them, and it took forever for them to get there. Apparently they have had people reserve them, go to the site, and then no one was there. That was what we were told. Wasn't the best experience.
You will have to gauge when you need to call them (or use a local app) to allow for them to travel to you.
What you may find is that there are discounts provided by arriving via public transport that to a degree offset the inconvenience. This is the case for example at Castle Howard.
It depends on what you determine countryside to be. I live on the outskirts of Portsmouth on top of a hill. To one side is a sprawling city, to the other side is glorious countryside. I could travel several miles into the countryside and still be able to hail an Uber. If I was in the middle of the South Downs or the Lake District then it would be unlikely, however if you're reasonably close to a large city then your chances increase.
Now I think I understand, JC. Probably doesn't make much sense for an Uber business to be in a remote location - not sure they would have enough busilness - so would need to be closer to a town. Thanks.
No experience with the countryside, but yes, you use the exact same app. Makes things quite convenient since your USA passenger rating carries over to the UK and you won't show up as a new customer.
