My wife and I will be arriving from LHR on the HEX Train to Paddington Station on an early a Sunday afternoon in September. Have read conflicting information about advisability and access to an Uber at this Station. Can anyone advise me? Will only be riding a few miles into Notting Hill, but with luggage we do not want to take the Tube.
I’ve walked out the “front” of the station to Praed Street and caught my car there. Plenty of room on the sidewalk to stand and wait for your Uber in front of the Hilton hotel. Should be easy. What issues have you read about?
Alternatively follow signs at the station to the taxi rank and take a black cab. They’re right there waiting for passengers all day.
There are cameras in Praed Street to dissuade drivers doing pickups there.
I read something about recent changes in where Uber can pick up at Paddington, especially on Praed Street which has few places for a car to pull over and stop.. it appears there is no dedicated area where Uber cars regularly do their pick ups, is there?
Also, do London taxis commonly accept credit cards? I was not going to go to a Bank ATM for currency exchange until after I checked in our rental flat. I do note there is a Bank in front of the Station on Praed Street that I could use.
do London taxis commonly accept credit cards?
All London black (licensed) cabs- the ones you'll see in the taxi rank at Paddington - are required to accept credit cards.
No need to bother with looking for 'bank' ATMs in the UK, they don't offer any advantages here.
London Street by Garfunkels is one place that Uber uses as a pick up; being just off Praed Street it doesn't cause the same congestion issues.
