Hi Everyone
I wanted to ask your op[inion about using Uber as a transport for Heathrow. Is it user friendly? Better or worse than Taxi or private transport?
thank you in advance
LT
Where are you headed to from Heathrow?
At Heathrow, Uber has to pick you up at a designated area and not the normal pick up zone. You have to find it. Pricing will depend on the demand that day.
With a private care service, you will know the price ahead of time. They will meet you as you exit customs and walk you to the car.
A taxi is the most expensive.
Where are going in London? Would you consider public transport?

I mean, they are not as good as the alternatives
Thank you all for replying and your advice. I am heading to my hotel Park Plaza county Hall. Any private car hire you would recommend?
Two of the most recommended car services in London are Blackberry Cars and Just Airports.
Your hotel is also less than a five minute walk to the Waterloo tube station.
The easiest way to use public transportation would be to take the Elizabeth Line from Heathrow to Paddington then change to the Bakerloo line to Waterloo. If interested in this, we can give you more details.
With traffic, they will both probably take the same amount of time.
Going to Terminal 5 at Heathrow from our hotel was user friendly. We did not take an Uber from the airport.
We used the tube to get to our first hotel from the airport, but when we were back in London at the end of our vacation, we used Uber to get to the airport. While it was more expensive than public transit (about 77 including a tip for 8pm--cheaper earlier), our suitcases were heavier, we were tired, and it was pouring rain. My husband preferred to go with Uber because of familiarity and ability to do it last minute. (We hadn't decided if we would stay for a late show before heading to the airport, nor when we would get back to the hotel after dinner.) We also used Uber for hotel to train station for our York trip.
A taxi is the most expensive.
More expensive than a car service??
More expensive than a car service??
Yes. Getting a taxi from the taxi queue costs more than a pre-booked car service.
Blackberry Cars quotes 89 pounds for the same trip we took with Uber for 69 (77 with tip).
Pricing story......Two days ago, I arrived in Helsinki by ferry. While on the boat as we were approaching Helsinki, I checked the price of a Bolt to my hotel. (Bolt is a similar service to Uber.) It was 6 Euros.
Fifteen minutes later, when I actually arrived, the price increased to over 10 Euros. They claimed "availability" issues. (The map showed plenty of cars.)
So, you never know what the price will be with a ride on demand service. Sometimes it will be lower, sometimes it will be higher than a car service. It all depends on demand, weather, availability, etc.
Your choice.
You're so right, Frank. Getting stuck with a higher price might be an issue. The Uber we took was actually about 10 pounds cheaper than what we'd seen when we checked the day before (for the next day). If we hadn't been trying to squeeze in just a little more in the late afternoon, the Uber would've been about 20 pounds less.
One disadvantage I see with the private car service, at least with Blackberry Cars, is they only wait an hour after your arrival time. That might not be enough time to get off the plane, use the bathroom, go through passport control, and collect checked luggage.
The car service I use from Ohare will wait 2 hours after the arrival time.
We used Blackberry last year and it worked seamlessly. It was so nice to have the driver waiting for us in the terminal. This year I used a different service Airport Taxi Transfers and it was sort of a mess. WHen the driver showed up, he was lovely, but there was a long delay and when I called the "emergency number" I was disconnected twice after a recorded message.
