two-together railcard at Luton Parkway?

My wife and I will be arriving from Amsterdam to the Luton Airport the end of this week. We found, as many have that the two-together railcard has to be purchased at a rail station in England. So we went ahead and purchased in advance nearly all our train trips throughout England and Scotland based upon having a two-together card, including the train from Luton to London. Now we are afraid that we cannot purchase the two-together card at the Luton station. Is this true? Is there any solution for the tickets we have already purchased?

Hi, we are brits, living in britain and have a 2 together railroad which we purchased at our local city station. It lasts for 1 year and costs 30 quid. You will save 1/3 off the combined fares for 2 people, so after the first £90 of fare spend, you've already broke even. (That's about what it costs us to get a return to london where we go about 10 times a year - saving us a fortune). I'm sure that pretty well any manned ticket office station will issue it for you (and Luton airport stat ion isure to do it). Just make sure you have passport photos at the ready for the ticket office to put onto your pass. I recall the process taking no more than a couple of minutes. To be sure Google "two-together pass on British railways" and I'm sure you'll find a railway company website which con firms.
Hope that helps?

There is a ticket window at Luton Airport Station.

It is open Monday - Friday 06:00 - 00:30, Saturday 06:30 - 00:00, Sunday 07:30 - 00:00.

They should be able to take care of getting you the 2Together Railcard.

In these days of austerity there is a very small chance that on a bad day the window could be closed in off-hours, but you are only one stop from London St Pancras where the windows are always open.

A couple of things you may want to know.

There are two train stations with similar names and only 3 minutes apart. Luton serves the town, and not the airport. Luton Airport Parkway is the station which serves the airport.

Neither station is actually on the airport. When you get off the Easyjet and collect your bags you go just outside the airport for the special bus to Luton Airport Parkway; you need a ticket for it. If your ticket to wherever is from "Luton Airport" that includes the bus. If your ticket is from "Luton Airport Parkway" you need a ticket for the bus. The bus conductor won't care if you have 2Together passes or not, but without them won't sell the bus cheaper. It is much too far to walk. It is much to short for a taxi. Take the bus; it has plenty of room for luggage, and they are plenty used to dealing with Easyjet passengers.

What time is your arrival?

There are two train companies serving that station, from different platforms, are Thameslink which makes several station stops on the way south (there are a number of destinations in that direction - Brighton, Blackfriars, Three Bridges and several others all stop at St Pancras and various stations in The City); and East Midlands which is normally express to St Pancras where it terminates.

What is your destination?

Nigel, you are wonderful. Our EasyJet from Amsterdam arrives at 8:50 am and sadly we had to check our bags because of EasyJet's policy. I did not quite speak the truth. The only rail tickets we have not pre-booked are the ones from Luton Airport into London. Our plan was to purchase in advance from National Railway or Visit Britain passage from the Airport to Farringdon and purchase our two-together card at Luton Airport. But the instructions for the tickets from National Rail says to pick the vouchers up at a machine at the Parkway station and the Visit Britain site says we can print them out. Our primary concern was getting on the shuttle at the airport without a two-together card and then finding no manned booth to sell us the cards, even at the train station. We have oyster cards. Is there another preferred station to go to? We're heading to Nottinghill Gate.

I don't quite see how Farringdon enters into it. What are you doing there?

Notting Hill Gate is at the junction of the Central Line and the Circle Line. Are you planning on joining the Circle Line at Farringdon and going all the way around clockwise? Or changing again at Liverpool Street for the Central Line? And it means you can only take the Thameslink from the airport.

You can change onto the Circle Line just as easily at St Pancras.

Wow! This is getting confusing. We thought the Thameslink was the only one that accepted the two-together card. How would you proceed from Luton Airport?

Almost all companies accept the 2Together Railcard.

I'm sure that you know that it isn't valid before 9:30 am M-F.

How would I get to Notting Hill Gate from Luton Airport Parkway?

I expect that by the time you're off the plane, gone through Border Control, got your luggage and ridden the bus, and then bought your 2Together Railcard and tickets into London and gone down to the platform, the 9:30 won't be a problem.

The Tube connection is problematical. Have you looked at a Tube map? What was with Farringdon? You pretty much have to change somewhere, and perhaps not easy.

Choices - any train to St Pancras, Circle Line anti-clockwise or Hammersmith and City towards Hammersmith to Edgware, (the circle is discontinuous at Edgware, it is now more lariat shaped than circle) change to an anti-clockwise Circle to Notting Hill.

or
Thameslink to Blackfriars, Circle Line clockwise lots of stops to Notting Hill Gate.

or
any train to St Pancras, Circle Line or Hammersmith and City Line or Metropolitan Line clockwise to Liverpool Street and change to Central Line through central London to Notting Hill Gate (my least favourite choice).

or

any train to St Pancras and go outside and take a cab to your destination.

dunno. What do you think?

Back to our first question. Can a two-together card be purchased at the Luton Parkway terminal?

Here is how we came up with Farringdon(ZFD). The National Rail site gave us this itinerary:

Luton Airport to Luton Airport Parkway (LTN) by shuttle,
Luton Airport Parkway(LTN) on platform 1 to Farrindon(ZFD) platform 3,
From Farringdon Station take the Circle Line or Hammersmith & City Line (Westbound, Platform 2) to
Edgware Road (Circle Line) Underground Station. Change and take the Circle Line or District Line (Westbound, Platform 4) to Notting Hill Gate Underground Station.

Took the time to study the new London Connections map (much easier to understand). Best route is to St. Pancras. Will take that one. Also found that there is a ticket office at the Luton Parkway station where we can get the two-together railcards.

Thanks so much.

Didn't I say that in both of my early posts?
