Two "older" couples headed to London in March

We are wondering about charming hotels that give us a nice taste of London, in a good hub for transportation and we are hoping to do lots of street touring, not the usual sites as we have all been there before. I am guessing we have to think at least $200 night as a starter. Not looking to get a low budget spot nor royal family level.
After that, how to set up good walking tours - interested in street art, ethnic markets, offbeat historical but not dungeons. We are traveling mid March 2023.

For walking tours I’d start with London walks. www.walks.com

Probably better to give your nightly price in GBP.

I like The Lime Tree on Ebury St. No elevator, recently renovated, Victoria Station area with plenty of restaurants nearby. It looks like it starts at 155£/night for mid-March.

Presuming you are flying into Heathrow I’d research the Elizabeth Line and Heathrow Express for travel to Paddington Station. Plenty of room for your luggage. Not cheap but only a 15 minute ride. Don’t know about you but after my flight from LA I’m not one to dawdle.

Take a look at 63 Bayswater. Breakfast included in the price. Has elevator. 10-15 walk from Paddington Station. Have stayed there many times over the years. Safe, secure, quiet, good price and across the road is the Lancaster Gate entrance into Hyde Park. You’ll walk in there and will be at the Italian Garden pond. A coffee spot is now there. Lovely spot to grab coffee, take a bench, people watch and enjoy the fact you are in London. Further in along the footpath is the Princess Diana Memorial and the Lido where people swim.

The Lancaster Gate tube station is a 1/2 block away from 63.

A favorite restaurant a few blocks away is Tudkin.
Another favorite spot is The Victoria Paddington Pub. I also enjoy the Mitre Paddington which is less than a 1/2 block away from 63.

We stayed 7 nights at the London House Hotel (in Ricks book). It was nice, clean and a good location. Our room overlooked the park. Breakfast was a normal cold hotel breakfast. We got a good rate but their rates seem to be different based on occupancy?

I like the Lime Tree for location and charm as well. But to elaborate on the "no elevator" part. It's charming because it's a very old narrow building. We were in room 21 which I assumed would be on the first or second floor. But no. I counted 65 stairs up to our room. I wanted to remember that so I counted - every time I walked up or down. The young lady at the desk, with the giant biceps, helped some people carry their non-carryon sized bags up the stairs. Two in our party were not happy with that, but we survived and, as I said, I still liked it enough to go back if it was just me.

I'm going to suggest your price may be too low, for London. Have you done any browsing in Tripadvisor or the hotel section of google flights to see what you can see?

Youtube is full of walking tour vlogs, there's an Irish woman I keep bumping into I think she does London Walks. There are lots and lots of options (and Rick discusses them at length in his book).

I’m also going to London in March. Anyone have an idea what I should expect for weather? Does it feel like the beginning of spring or the end of winter. FYI, we were in London in October and they were experiencing record numbers of tourists. So be prepared for very crowded streets.

London is further north than Calgary, Alberta. Latitude is not the primary factor for predicting weather, but it makes you think.. of potential.

Weather wise - bring layers! It could be anything in March. It’s possible to get a few warm, sunny springlike days. It’s also possible it could be very cold and wet. I’m not sure what the average temps are but wind and damp can make it feel much colder than you would think. Likewise, if the sun comes out it can really warm up.
