Two nights in London near Waterloo -- suggestions for decent price?

Hi. Ending a Road Scholar trip in a Heathrow hotel on a Monday - need to take the train to Winchester from Waterloo on Wednesday. Would like to find a hotel at a reasonable price for two nights near the train station -- any suggestions appreciated. Thank you!

We've stayed at Premier Inn County Hall, which is 0.2 miles from the station. A sister property, Premier Inn Waterloo is about the same distance. Both are near Westminster Bridge, so there is handy access to the Westminster tube. You will be right across the bridge from Parliment and the Abbey. These hotels seemed to be filled with British families and feel very safe. They are basic rooms, and they don't have much in the way of ambience, but they have good beds and linens. We paid the fee for Internet ( I think it was 3£ a day) and it was fast and reliable. They also have the tea service ( electric kettle, tea or powdered coffee and a biscuit) in your room. They save money by doing most things online or with a tech device, but they always had attentive, friendly staff to help you navigate onsite. We've paid a lot more, for a lot less, in London.

If you want something super convenient, there's a hotel and pub directly across the street from Waterloo - as in, DIRECTLY across, called the Wellington. http://www.wellingtonhotelwaterloo.co.uk/

I've not stayed there, but I go to the pub every year when I'm in London, and it is excellent - large, clean, upscale (although crowded at rush hour) and friendly. If that's anything to judge by, the hotel is likely nice, too. They do bunk rooms and twins for reasonable prices, and the decor looks fab. Gets 4 stars on TripAdvisor, too.
