In Rick's book he mentions that one may qualify for 2-4-1 tickets for the London Eye with a one day paper Travelcard. We were planning to get an Oystercard for our four day visit to London but Eye tickets are so expensive it might pay to buy a Tavelcard for the day we plan to visit the Eye. I have two questions about this: 1 - I can't find this on either the Travelcard or the Eye website. Is it still applicable? 2 - would both of us need a Travelcard or could one person buy the 2-4-1 tickets with their card?
Thanks to all who post on this Forum. I have learned so much about planning our UK visit by reading what folks have written.
info & details you're looking for can be found on this website: http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk
We arrived at Gatwick & got our travel card before boarding the train into London. A photocopy of your passport picture will do & can be done before leaving home.
The webpage for the discounts on the London Eye is at http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/london-eye
All persons using the Days Out (2 for 1) promotion from the railways must qualify for the discount by holding valid train tickets providing them transportation to the attraction.
The paper travelcard issued by National Rail outlets - predominantly train stations - qualify if they are for the day of use and for the zone where the attraction is.
Often attractions add additional restrictions which is why I have included the direct web page.
Both people using the two for one must have a qualifying train ticket of some sort, so, no, one person cannot buy the 2-4-1 tickets with their card. Both must be present and both must present their valid train ticket, and one copy of the form. Then the person behind the window will sell the attraction tickets at the appropriate price.
Thanks for you help. With this information we can make a decision about whether it is worth it to buy a Travelcard for that one day.
I understand qualification for the 2-4-1 but I'm not finding a 2-4-1 voucher for the London Eye. Its in the daysout listing but not with a 2-4-1 (that I see) as, say, the Blackpool Eye does.
It certainly doesn't look like the London Eye participates in the 2-4-1 program.
If they participate in the Days Out promotion - see the direct link above - they allow 2 adults for the price of one full price ticket upon presentation of the completed form and a valid ticket for train travel to the attraction - a paper Travelcard issued by a train company for the appropriate Zone is adequate, among many other opportunities.
You can only claim the discount in person - advance booking not allowed.
It is true that the webpage doesn't have a link to create a voucher. I've tweeted them for clarification. If I get any I'll post it here.
I'd advise waiting a little bit before using the Blackpool Tower. A parasite has been discovered in the water and that part of Lancashire is having to boil its water and use bottled water for the moment.
Do the Sky Garden instead... it's currently FREE.
It's as good as the LE, without the queue's or the expense.
Booking long in advance essential.
I have had a response from Days Out. They terminated their arrangement with the London Eye in July this year.
There are no 2 for 1 deals through them for that attraction.
Thanks so much Nigel. I'm sure many appreciate all you do for folks on this forum.
