Tunbridge Wells to Scotney Castle

I may be missing something, but am I correct that a bus is the best way to get to Scotney Castle from TW? It seems there are far more of them than trains

Either way, there’s a walk to the castle. I believe a taxi would need to be pre-arranged?

Could I arrange for a return taxi while at Scotney, or would I need to do that well in advance also? That would be difficult as I couldn’t know I’m advance when I’d be leaving

Thanks!!

The nearest train station is Wadhurst, over 5 miles away.

As a total aside my boss lived there the year we got totally snowed in for over a week in Tunbridge Wells.

So the not super frequent bus #256 to Lamberhurst. Then a one mile or so walk.

Wadhurst is an important commuter station, so it would be normal to call a taxi at short notice. Three taxi companies serve the station. They will have local drivers who are based in Lamberhurst.

PS- I'm on the train currently on a working day trip from Cumbria to Edinburgh and East Lothian

Snowed in for a week? Wow!

Thanks, Stuart!

I likely won’t ho until the end of April, when the entire grounds are open, so I have time

The train would be easiest for sure… I just plugged in a fake date to Wadhurst, and plenty of dates came up.

I’m trying to organize the places I want to visit while in TW, making sure I know how I’ll get there, since it’s my first base

Is that a long train ride to Edinburgh, Stuart?

It's 3 hours on the train each way for me to Edinburgh, plus time from home to station.
So an 0540 start from home. If all goes well I will be home at around 2340. If the last train is cancelled then an hour later by taxi paid for by the railway.

The train fare is £8.10 each way booked about ten days ahead.

Next Tuesday I do Perth and beyond as a day trip on the same schedule. It's further but a bit cheaper.
