Do the Tube stations have elevators for those passengers that are not able to walk up & down the stairs ?
Download the step free guide from TfL.
And keep in mind that just because a station has a lift, it doesn't mean it will be available when you need it.
Covent Garden is so deep they have several lifts that are big enough to hold cars, and a warning at the stairs not to take them because they are really, really long.
Nearly all with handle people with mobility problems. Remember Londoners have the same problems with mobility and not just American tourists. Most have escalators, sometimes super long, and elevators. Sometimes you may find one out-of-order but you will be OK.
Even if there are lifts and escalators, there may still be steps. Russell Sq for example has lifts because of the depth of the lines. After leaving the lifts, there are still 6 to8 steps to get down to the actual platform. The Underground is very old so was not built accessible. Newer stations and some refit stations are accessible. Check with TFL about the accessible stations. They have info on which have lifts and which have no steps right onto the train.
And don’t forget the buses if you have mobility issues.
Thank you all so very much
Very few tube stations are step-free. If you have problems with steps, the bus will be a better option.
If you use the TFL Journey Planner and you let it know you need step free access, it will give you routing that works.
At first, you just put in your starting point and destination. Then, once you get the initial results, you can make modifications.
all good stuff - I use the step free map and Travel Planner a lot.
Do keep an eye on the advertised outages of step free.
