Tube Fares?

I have a question that some of our UK friends might know the answer....

I was on the tube today. I went from Stop A to Stop B and exited. Exactly ten minutes later I re-entered Stop B and traveled to Stop C. I only got charged for one journey.

Is there an amount of time that one can exit a station and re-enter and not be charged for an additional fare? I only took one other trip so it has nothing to do with the daily cap.

I'm not British but I believe I know the answer. You got the Hopper Fare. On pay-as-you-go Oyster & contactless, it's one hour of unlimited rides as described in the link. I experienced it too last week.

Hopper fares are for buses and trams, not the tube.

Disclosure of what A, B and C are might help explain what may have happened here. It is possibly an Out-of-station interchange which despite the name can be possible between different parts of the same station.

I had the same experience as Frank II, Marco. I wasn't charged for my second tube ride about 10-15 minutes after I re-entered the tube station which for me was Green Park.

I exited and re-entered the same station/same entrance. All in zone 1.

It was Earls Court to Bank (got off train at Monument but walked the passageways to exit at Bank. I had to exchange old notes at the Bank of England.) Ten minutes later re-entered the same area of Bank and went to Tottenham Court Road.

There is a 15 minute OSI allowance for the various bits of Bank/Monument.

However, there isn't usually one in place for any part of Green Park, so that may have been something temporary in place or an error.

Some of the OSIs are as great as 40 minutes.
