Trouble purchasing train ticket at GWR

Hello all,

I was unsuccessful purchasing a train ticket from GWR (after starting my inquiry with the National Rail .co.uk site). IThe site repeatedly (yes, I continued with the same behavior expecting a different outcome) implied my webbrowser was not updated. I finally, and very quickly, purchased the ticket through trainline.com. The trainline.com ticket included a small convenience fee and was worth it for the ease of purchase.

Anyone else have problems using my problematic sites? Any suggestions for future direct purchases?

BlockquoteTry using the Great Western site directly. For the London North Eastern Railway use its website. It’s been a couple years, but I had no issue at that time using the GWR site.

Yes, it was the Great Western site I was using.

Maybe it was having an off day. At least you have tickets now. Enjoy your trip.

Not all train operating companies' booking engines and foreign cards get along smoothly.

Though since all TOCs can sell tickets for all routes I tend to go to either LNER -- https://www.lner.co.uk/ -- or Avanti West Coast -- https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/ -- to search and buy tickets. It use to be that Virgin West Cost (and/or East Coast) was the go to operator to buy tickets because the website was optimized for foreign cards. When Avanti West Coast and LNER took over the West Coast and East Coast Mainlines from Virgin they inherited that booking infrastructure.
