Hi, We just discovered we will be in London for the Queen’s birthday celebration. It’s too late to try to get tickets by lottery for the Trooping of the colors, but I’m assuming we can get there early and watch from the street correct? Where is the best place to view it, and does anybody have expert advice? Thanks!!
This website is spot on with the suggestions.

Go early. Comfortable shoes. Have snacks and water. Engage with others standing nearby. Appreciate the pomp and circumstance.
Enjoy.
You don't need a ticket to see the procession. Don't be put off by the fear of it being crowded either. I have always found the crowds manageable. Just arrive early and get yourself a good location. I do like to be nearer to the Palace (great photo backdrop) but if you stand anywhere along the Mall you will be able to see the procession. Don't miss it if you are going to be in London.

We caught the parade last year on its return up the Mall to the Palace. Got there about an hour ahead and really enjoyed talking with the locals. Be sure to stay around for the fly-over after the parade ends. You can rent a canvas lawn chair in the park to watch that.
You can probably still get tickets to one of the Beating Retreat performances on Wednesday or Thursday. Not as long or formal as the Saturday event, and it doesn't require morning dress and a hat! We took one grandson last year and will be there with the younger one this year. Horses, and bands, and bands on horses...with fireworks at the end.
