Hello, My husband and two teenage daughters will stay in beautiful Bath for 4 nights in August. Are there any exciting day trips out of that location?

from Bath you can visit the Cotswolds, Stonehenge and Avebury, towns like Wells and Glastonbury. The tour company Mad Max tours is recommended if you need transportation.
Do you have a car or are you relying on public transort or day trips? What constitutes an 'exciting' day trip for you? Have a look at the following two websites to give you some ideas.

Wells is a delightful small town and well worth visiting with its Cathedral and moated Bishop's Palace. Don't miss Vicar’s Close believed to be the only complete medieval street left in Englan.
Alternatively there is Bristoil with the SS Great Britain, which was the largest and most advanced passenger ship in the world when it was built. It has been beautifully restored and was state of the art luxury when it was built. Walking beneath the hull is an amazing experience.
Yes, come to Bristol! Bristol is famous for its street art, if that interests your teenagers. There are tours you can take which I haven’t tried but I have heard are very good. It’s also home to many good restaurants so a food tour here would be fun.
Salisbury, Wells, Cheddar and Cheddar gorge, Cardiff, and Tintern Abbey also come to mind. Ease of getting to places is dependent on the type of transportation they’re using.
Thank you all for these suggestions! We will be taking public transit as we hope to give us a vacation from driving, and we are coming from Canada, so also concerned about being on the other side in England :).
If you're going to book a tour, I'd do it quickly.
Second suggestion of Mad Max Tours. Especially for places not as easily accessible with public transportation.
Salisbury is about 1 hour by train (hourly) from Bath. Shuttle buses run to Stonehenge and on return - suggest you visit Salisbury Cathedral before train back to Bath.
Bristol is a 15 minute train ride from Bath and has a replica of Cabot’s ship ‘Matthew’ in the harbour as well as Brunel’s ‘Great Britain’ - the real thing restored.
Cardiff is just over 1 hour by train (hourly) from Bath and has a castle in the city centre. St.Fagans Castle & Museum (free) is a 25 minute bus (Cardiff Bus) journey west of the city .
If you want seaside - suggest you take the train from Bath to Weymouth on the south coast.
