I'm planning a trip for April/May of 2023. How far in advance would you buy plane tickets?
My favourite time to travel to the U.K. is early May so I buy my tickets in February or early March.
I’d look at a day flight if you can. I fly from Chicago at 9 am, get to Heathrow around 10-11 PM and then stay at a nearby hotel to sleep off jet lag.
I would start looking now so you can watch prices for comparison. See if there are any changes for the next month or two. But I don’t think previous years’ experiences are anything to go on. So who knows this year - prices are high.
I would start looking now. Its never too early to book. If you find a fare that meets your financial criteria for your chosen dates, thats the one you want. While fares fluctuate, most fare sales are short lived and rarely (or barely) advertised. If you are not watching, you may miss a price drop. I would also book directly with the airline these days as opposed to an OTA like Expedia. The reason being, if something goes awry, you would have to deal with Expedia instead of the carrier.
I always book directly with the airline. Typically Delta, because I have there am ex card.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm sure I'll be on here asking lots of questions.
