Travelodge Hotels Deal Drop

For anyone looking for a last minute cheap hotel deal, Travelodge have today introduced a new fortnightly 'deal drop'- 10% or 15% off selected hotels, for those subscribed to their marketing e-mails.

Travelodge are a perfectly good chain of budget hotels, if a notch below Premier Inn.

Today's collection is to book by 20 May, for stays from 22 to 31 May. Of the 14 hotels included in the deal this time round several are in London Zones 1 to 6- Aldgate East, Stratford Central, Bromley Town Centre, Epsom Central and Chiswick High Road.

I don't know, Stuart; after reading about the issues with break-ins in rooms (some inadvertent, some not) and Travelodge not really doing anything to fix the situations, I would be very hesitant about staying in a Travelodge in the UK.

I have to agree with Mardee. I'm sure some Travelodges are okay, but I've also seen reports of continued security issues at several Travelodges in the UK. As a solo female traveler I wouldn't consider booking a Travelodge.

I appreciate the announcement, Stuart, and your posting it; and I am sure that the majority of customers don't have unsafe encounters.

But although the head of the chain did go on tv last week or the week before to address the issue, what she promised was future actions and future training. As a man and a carer for my wife I'm not sure that I wouldn't be looking over my shoulder and perhaps being very sensitive to sounds outside the room during the night. Would that contribute to a good sleep?

If I were a solo female, which all the known victims appear to be, I would be proper chary.

I think I would wait a while and let things settle out and all the promised changes take effect and bed in (no pun).

Good points, Nigel. I do think it's nice that they're doing this promotion, and I hope that they follow through with their future actions.

How about a more up market brand like Hilton?

Physical keys will be phased out for these reasons, in some hotels they are. However digital keys are still not risk free, and solo female travellers should use the deadbolt - I am in London with work most weeks and this is the precaution I take.

I feel for Travelodge a bit, their brand is taking a hammering and their CEO is hopeless in front of camera. However I don't feel their hotels are any less safe than others.

I would think that after all the recent publicity that Travelodge would now be taking stringent precautions to enforce security for their clients.

I always use the deadbolt, even if I'm just in there for a brief time during the day. Better to be safe than sorry. It's rare anymore that I get a physical key, and I'm glad they are all going to digital cards, but like you said, they're not risk-free. It'd be nice if they started using biometrics. 😊
