I hope to fly into Bristol from Amsterdam in October and reach Taunton before the 4pm taxi to Lee Abbey. The best flight for me arrives at 1:15. Will I be able to make it? I move somewhat slowly, with luggage. I see the best trains ( if the schedule holds into October) are at 1:59 and 2:45. Is this reasonable? I see the taxi is expensive but half the time.
The alternative is a late flight and staying at the airport hotel (easy/convenient/expensive/another night of unpacking/less time in Amsterdam).
Thanks! Hoping to reserve tickets this week. Guess I can’t reserve the train yet.
First you have a 25 minute bus ride from Bristol Airport to Temple Meads station on the Airport Flyer bus A1, so the 1.59 train is close to impossible.
But the 2.45 should be fine.
What I would do is to catch the Stagecoach/Megabus falcon bus from the airport headed for Plymouth and get off at the BP Garage at Taunton (just off the M5) and taxi from there.
It runs at 1355, 1510, 1615 and then hourly, and takes an hour to Taunton.
Pay on bus, or ahead of time on the Megabus website.
These are double deck coach buses.
Could the Lee Abbey taxi pick you up at BP?
I don’t think you’ll make the 2.45 train. That’s only 1.5hrs after landing and the train station is 9 miles from the airport on not great roads. Even a taxi would take around 30mins.
