Hello,
After seeing our sites in England we need to go to Amsterdam. Any suggestions on how to get there?
Will have a rental car in England but don’t plan on taking over the channel. Or can we? 🤔
Thank you in advance for any suggestions you can offer. 🤓
The easiest is probably the train from London to Amsterdam.

Thank you so such for the suggestion and the link. That will help a lot with planning our May trip.
Take the EuroStar from St Pancras International.
Little over 4 hours from London to Amsterdam.
Arrive 3 hours before boarding.
Enjoy a pricey meal or tea or cocktail at the gorgeous Booking Office 1869. Or meander about all the shops you’ll find at St Pancras.

Book you train fare advance to save money.
Thanks for the details. Especially the timeline.
St Pancras sounds like it might interesting place to check out. Even for pricey meals. 🤓
Thanks again.
Fly from London City Airport.
There is alot to explore in and around St Pancras. Inside, the Kiss piece of art is interesting. Outside at the nearby Hardy Tree.
This link is enjoyable. Its about residents who live in St Pancras.
You don’t want a hire car anywhere near central London. You probably can’t take it across the channel and even if you could, the one way drop fee would be horrendous plus it will be a right hand drive car, which isn’t as easy in mainland Europe.
The Eurostar check in only opens 75 minutes before departure, so there is no point getting there more than 90 minutes in advance.
If you are returning your hire car at Heathrow, consider flying as the door to door times will be similar. Take the train if you are starting from central London.
I'll just add that Eurostar tickets for May are already on sale and the earlier you buy the less you will pay. Prices go up as the trains sell the cheaper seats. Buy through Eurostar.com website. I book via the app on my iPhone but I just have one ticket to deal with.
You don't mention where in England you will be. But the train is a good option, and in my opinion the best if you by England mean London.
Thanks everyone for your help. Great options and advance.
Our plan is to fly into Edinburg and work ourselves down to London. There we will probably take the train over to Amsterdam with your advice given.
Or we reverse that and fly into London and work ourselves up to Scotland where we will have to fly to Amsterdam. Sounds like we have more planning to do before our trip. 🤓 so excited for this trip and to see the English countryside and everything in between.
Thanks again everyone for your feedback. It will surely help our planning. 👍
Hi OP, check out this link on the Man in Seat 61's website covering travel between the UK and Netherlands -- https://www.seat61.com/Netherlands.htm
Personally I enjoy "slower" journeys and my preference for travel around Europe is by train and ferry and I thoroughly enjoyed the rail & overnight ferry service to get to Amsterdam from London that is operated by Stena Line.
