Traveling from Cotswolds to Liverpool by train

There are four of us who plan to tour Cotswolds and then travel to Liverpool by train.

  1. Where should we plan to stay three nights in the Cotswolds area? (we are arriving from Bath)
  2. What is the best way to travel from that location to Liverpool by train?

We've heard Moreton-In-Marsh is a good travel hub. However looking for advice. Chipping Campden sounds good.

We will be using public transportation/taxis.

thanks !

As for Question 2 it will be three trains whichever route you take or are coming from.
The usual answer from Moreton in Marsh (or the route I would first choose, anyway) would be changes at Worcestershire Parkway and Birmingham.
But going via Oxford and Birmingham is another option.
The most scenic option would be changes at Hereford and Chester. From Chester there are two different direct routes to Liverpool.

You could even break your journey at Hereford and use the free city bus to visit the city, including the Cathedral.

From Chipping Campden it is six of one and half a dozen of the other whether you take the bus south to Moreton in Marsh or north to Stratford in Avon for trains to Birmingham.
As you would have arrived via Moreton then via Stratford is the one I would choose to maximise the scenery I see.
