Travelcard in London

Rick Steves's book London says : "...the only option of note is the 7-day Travel card.....purchase the paper version at any National Rail train station."
I would like to have any version of it while I am still in Heathrow.
Does anybody know where I can get it there. I DO NOT want to add it to Oyster card. Just plain 7-Day Travel card for Zones 1-2.
Thank you

Paper zonal 7-day travelcards ceased to be sold back in June. Only available on Oyster or train operators' smart cards.

I’m sorry but I’m confused. I will be in London for 7 days and wanted to buy the travel card as my days do not align with the weekly cap.
The website https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/how-to-pay-and-where-to-buy-tickets-and-oyster/travelcards-and-group-tickets#on-this-page-0 shows they can still be purchased but now i see that they stopped in June.
I am comfortable with tap in tap out but is there any way to still get the 7 day cap. I will be there Thursday to Wednesday.

You should read information in your link again.
You can buy papers day travel cards but weekly only weekly ones starting on any day can only be added to Oyster Cards
I can see how the terminology used has caused confusion
With not knowing what you travel plans are unable to give best advise
How do you plan to go from Heathrow into London and pattern of journeys during the week you are there?

The main question is not how to pay for it, but WHERE to get the Travel card in Heathrow. We are landing on Saturday. I know a will have to pay extra for zone 6 if i buy zone 1-2 card.
I am planning to take Elizabeth line to Totteham Court Rd. and then to the tube station I need.
Is there a place in any of the terminals at the Elizabeth line that sell Travel cards?

You can buy a travelcard for any 7 days of the week. You just have to load it on an Oyster Card. They don’t issue travelcards on paper anymore, so the only option is to load it on an Oyster. For example, on my last trip to London I arrived mid-week for a 7-night / 8-day stay. I loaded a 7 day zone 1-2 travelcard on my Oyster and about 10 GBP in pay-as-you-go money to cover my trips outside zone 2 and my final day.

Your original post asked about a plain 7-day zone 1-2 paper travelcard which is no longer sold. If you want to buy a travelcard loaded on an oyster card, you can do that at the station at Heathrow.

I have similar questions. We will be in London Jan 1-6 arriving via Eurostar and leaving via Heathrow. We have two kids so four of us total. For my husband and I it seems to make the most sense to go contactless. If we do that and use our credit cards, is it correct we can load either a 7 day travel card or day passes onto our credit cards? How does that work? Do we need to register in advance? I went to the site to register in advance but it won't let us through (is there a firewall if you are still in the U.S.?). For our kids ages 11 and 15, it looks like we have to get physical cards and then stop at a Visitor Centre (where are these?) to get the Young Visitor discount applied.

You can't 'load' anything onto a contactless payment method (card/phone). It deducts the appropriate single pay as you go fare as you tap in (and out where required), capped at the daily rate and weekly using a Monday-Sunday basis. It is fairly clever at working out capping and fares to be at a minimum based on the zones travelled on a particular day / week and modes of transport used.

The Young Visitor discount can be added at any underground station, but makes sense to do so at the arrival point. This halves the PAYG fare.

I just did tapping on the Tube and on busses and it really is as simple as it sounds, you touch your credit card and off you go. Just be aware that you will need to tap the SAME card to get out of the Tube station; you can just walk off the bus. And if you're someone who needs to confirm and verify each transaction, well these systems are designed for convenience and speed they do not seem to show the fare you're paying just that you're approved to enter.

If you do some more research (like watching travel vlogs) most people advise against Oyster cards and travel cards these days. Tap and go cards have simplified everything.
