I will be traveling to London for 4 days in July with my adult daughter. I believe we will want to get 7-day Travelcards and am a little confused about zones. I am arriving from Southend airport and leaving from Sansted. I assume that each of those airports is outside the zones 1-6 covered by the travelcard. Does anyone know if that's correct? Is there a way to use the travelcard for at least part of these airport trips? I guess that means buying a travelcard at Southend when we arrive...so does anyone have any experience there? THank you!
Whoops, about that "and cruises" part! Rick's London 2014 book says the travelcard can get you a discount on most of the cruises. Anyone care to weigh in on favorite cruise? I did one years ago, out to Greenwich and back (may opt for Rick's suggestion of cruising out and zipping back on the Tube this time), but no recollection which company. Advice?
I don't know if they can sell you a 7-day Travelcard at Southend Airport, but IF they can, they can also sell you a ticket to the edge of the Travelcard area if you ask them (you'd need to decide how many zones you want in advance). That's if there's a staffed ticket office at Southend Airport at all, I haven't been there yet and it might just be vending machines.
Also, being pedantic, there's no tube at Greenwich, so don't bother looking for one. The Jubilee Line stops at "North Greenwich", which is a name made up to sell flats in housing developments, it's a long way away from actual Greenwich. From Greenwich you have a choice of Docklands Light Railway or suburban train to get back into town, but your Travelcard will cover both.
Most operators give a third off standard advertised adult and child fares on the river bus and river tours for travel cards on paper and Oyster.
Southend Airport has a ticket office open nearly all of time the railway is operating apart from the very extremes of the day.
