Travel zones and Oyster cards

If I buy a 7 day travelcard and put it on an Oyster card but then travel out of zone 2, say to Kew or Richmond, can I still use that 7 day travel card? Or does Oyster just automatically charge my credit card for the extra fare?

If you buy only a 7-Day Zone 1-2 card and travel outside the zone, the exit gate will not work, and direct you to go to a machine and buy a supplement or ticket.

For what it is worth, tapping in and out with credit card or phone will give you the same discounts, and will just charge you properly for longer distance travel, plus no additional cost for the oyster.

You can load both a 7 day zone 1-2 travelcard and pay-as-you-go (PAYG) funds onto an Oyster card. You will be charged the difference from your PAYG funds when you travel beyond zone 2. For example, when I am in London for a week, I often load a 7 day zone 1-2 travelcard and 10 GBP PAYG to cover trips to Heathrow.

Where do you find a "Zone Map" for London transport.
Is the 7 day travelcard different than the Oyster card ? is it less expensive?
Can the 7 day travelcard be used on the tube, buses , etc?
Sorry but I am still confused about the Oyster Cards.
Is there a U Tube video ?
Thanks

@huggibear73- Here is a zone map for the tube- https://content.tfl.gov.uk/standard-tube-map.pdf

The 7 day travelcard now has to be loaded onto an Oyster Card. The chief difference between using Pay as You Go on Oyster and a Travelcard is that a Travelcard can be purchased for any 7 day period. The Pay as You Go weekly cap on Oyster or Credit Card tapping is only for a calendar week period.

Otherwise the weekly caps are identical.

Travelcard can be used on all methods of London Transport, including 1/3rd discount on riverboat fares.

You pay a non refundable fee of £7 for your Oyster Card.
