Travel to Munich through London Airport. Immigration control in London?

Rather new at European travel. I am traveling from Los Angeles to Munich through London. On a Air New Zealand plane between LA and London, have a 2 hour layover and then onward on Lufthansa to Munich. My understanding is that both airlines use Terminal 1. Do I have to go through immigration control when I get to London? Do I need my bags with me if I do? Or is it just a simple plane change since I am in the same terminal?

Thanks,

Mike

Michael,

AFAIK, you will have to go through Passport control when you arrive in London. As you mentioned "Terminal 1", I assume you're arriving at LHR? There will be separate lines for those with U.K. Passports and those travelling on other Passports.

The situation with your luggage will likely depend on whether you're using a code share flight (ie: both flights on the same ticket). If you are using code share, your checked luggage should be delivered directly to Munich so you shouldn't need to retrieve it in London.

Are you clear on the method for getting from MUC into the city of Munich?

Happy travels!

Follow the signs for transfers. There is no need to enter the UK as this is a transfer between 2 international flights. You will need to go through a security check (carry on and personal). This is one of the fastest connections - often you manage to be into the departure lounge within 15 minutes of arriving.

Ken,
I am taking the S-8 subway from MUN to the train station. My hotel is a few blocks away. And, yes, the airlines are part of the same alliance so I was hoping my bag would so straight through.

Marco,
I was hoping that was the answer. Thanks

Michael,

You can use either the S1 or S8 to get into Munich. The ticket machines are easy to use, but hopefully Lee will be along shortly to provide more specifics.
