We prefer train to flight or rental car. With that in mind, with 2 days to get from Glasgow to either London or Bath, what are your recommendations?
If flight simply makes more sense, flight it will be.
If you prefer train then take it. Virgin run direct trains from Glasgow Cental to London Euston.
As for Glasgow to Bath, at least one change will be required. The most direct is one change at Bristol Temple Meads, however the route with two changes (Glasgow Central > Birmingham New St > Bristol Temple Meads > Bath Spa) is more frequent.
Glasgow to Bath can be done alternately as a flight to Bristol Airport and a bus from there.
The Virgin Trains from Glasgow to Birmingham aren't just more frequent, they are 2 hours faster!
It might well be cheaper to pre-book an advance ticket with Virgin from Glasgow to Birmingham New Street - worth a look around central Birmingham if you don’t mid dragging your cases. Then, pre purchase another ticket from Birmingham New Street to Bath (with 1 change at Bristol Temple Meads). www.nationalrail.co.uk

Thank you for these insights.
When checking for train travel options, I use my Rail Europe ap. Do the Virgin Rail lines appear on that sight, or do I need to download a different apt to access Virgin?
For flight options, I refer to Skyscanner regularly. It seems to me RS recommends KAYAK (especially for international) over Skyscanner (best for inter Euro continental), but I find Skyscanner more user friendly with the smiley face guide easily showing ease of travel as opposed to cheep but troublesome flights with hidden fees and length of travel with complicated, perhaps unreliable connections.
For rail, use nationalrail.co.uk. It's the official website for our rail network and you can book any route on it.
Skyscanner has limited flight listings, iirc, so you may not see every flight option available to you. The only airline operating flights between Glasgow and Bristol is easyjet, so if you want to fly go direct to their website.
Rail Europe is run by the French, they struggle to explain their own trains!!
Unfortunately Nationalrail are struggling to run their website so it may just hang on you.
Try trainline.com for UK trains too.
But not RailEurope!
Wow. So glad I asked. Thanks for the intel. Will go back to my Europe through the Back Door section of train travel.
This is the best site for learning about train travel:>https://www.seat61.com
"Try trainline.com for UK trains too."
Don't use the Trainline unless you want to pay more (booking fees).
