My wife and I are traveling in England this coming May. We are not renting a car. Has anyone taken a taxi from Stratford Upon Avon to Windsor and if so how was the experience (time and cost). I see that train travel from Stratford to Windsor will take nearly 4 hours. Since we are spending just one night in Windsor (to visit Windsor Castle) prior to flying home from Heathrow early the next morning we would like to get to Windsor earlier than a train can get us there. So, has anyone traveled by taxi between those two towns? Advice?
There is several ways to get to Windsor......train which will be 2 hours and 46 minutes, bus would be 3 hours and 59 minutes, and cab which cost around £125.00 and be 1 1/2 hours. There is a train at 7:33am arriving in Windsor at 10:36 which would give you most of the day, but it would involve 3 changes. Another option would be take the 7:33 am train to London Marylebone 2 hrs and 2 minutes, then take a cab to Paddington Station ( less then a mile) then get the train there to Windsor & Eton Central., will have a change in Slough (it’s easy just change platforms), this is a 35 minutes ride.
Taking a taxi would be insane.
You need to arrive at Windsor in time to see the Castle, it takes at least 2-2 1/2 hours.
