Travel from LHR to Bath

Arriving in LHR 6:30am Friday, March 4 with my 14 year old daughter. What is the best way to travel to Bath?

IIRC there is a bus from the airport to Bath. You can check the National Express website.

I agree, take the National Express coach from Heathrow. Comfortable, free wi-fi, possible to get some sleep and no need to worry about the rigours of driving yourself. A to B with no concerns about changing trains and making it to the right platform and reasonbly priced too.

Here's the website for the coach to Bath from Heathrow.

UK long distance coaches are in no way similar to the Greyhound buses of the US. I always take the UK national express from Heathrow in to London as the depot is near my hotel!

Plenty of people use the bus or train to get to Bath. But you asked for the best way. In my opinion, the best way is a private car service. It is not the cheapest way, but it is the best way. We used one based in Bath to go to the airport in Bristol, and would not hesitate to use them from Heathrow to Bath. The site (if memory serves correctly) is chauffeurtravel.co.uk and the email address is enquiries@chauffeurtravel.co.uk. We sent an email detailing our needs and had a reply within 24 hours. Not sure about the price since we didn't actually go from Heathrow to Bath, but by the time you total up bus / train fares, the hassle factor, time involved, all while being jet lagged on unfamiliar turf, it's a small luxury we feel is well worth the price. There is nothing better than having a driver meet you in the terminal and wisk you to your hotel. Just something to consider.

I looked up the cost of a car to take you from Heathrow to Bath. The quote was 287 GBP. (see below)

There is a 7:55 AM National Express bus from Heathrow to Bath with starting costs of $40 GBP for two.

The other choice you have is to take the bus to Reading and then switch to a train to Bath.

Edited: Heathrow to Bath from other companies than I originally looked at was around 150 pounds.

That quote seems a bit excessive to me, I can find a few around the £140-£150 mark. However, the costs of these services are significantly more than they were three years ago for various reasons, when for a party they could be not far away from public transport.

Marco....I only looked at one company. But I see it's much cheaper with other companies.

Quick question about booking the bus traveling LHR to Bath. Is it advisable to book in advance, or better to walk up and get once we arrive? Just concerned if the plane is delayed, and how long it takes to navigate to the bus from the gate. Thanks for sharing your experience and wisdom!

We were able to walk up to the ticket kiosk and buy tickets for a bus departing in a couple of hours. Our flight was on time but the line to get through immigration was quite long and we were a little delayed by the machine not recognizing my 14yr old as she has changed since her passport photo was taken. We had to go to a different line & be checked by a human (most people are able to use the facial recognition machine & it hastens the process). I think you would be ok buying tickets on the National Express website once landed from LHR to Bath, just allow maybe 1 1/2- 2 hours from landing. You will need to find ticket kiosk in arrival area (after immigration), counter may or may not be open yet depending on arrival time. We then boarded a bus to the main bus terminal within the airport and then waited about 40 min for our bus. Was a pleasant ride to Bath, we are taking the train back to London Paddington on Monday. There are different prices for train dependent on day & time of travel. I hope that helps!
