I've been planning a trip to England, mostly to Cornwall and Cotswolds with 1 day in London. King Charle's coronation is now happening while we are there, in the Cotswolds. Wondering if the coronation will affect our trip in ways we haven't considered.
Thoughts? Thank you.
Some streets will be blocked off, room rates will be higher and public transportation crowded.
It will also be festive.
Book your room now. Maybe somewhere near Paddington so you can take the Heathrow Express or Elizabeth Line to LHR.
If you are in the Cotswolds the day of King Charles coronation it shouldn’t effect your trip. You will probably see banners hanging, etc.. They are making May 8th a bank holiday, so some places might close that day.
On the day of the Queens funeral, most businesses were shut. Many restaurants that were open closed during the actual funeral. (I was in Scotland.) Supermarkets were closed. Most retail stores were closed. Even McDonalds closed for the day.
As stated, the coronation is now a bank holiday and you can expect some closures that day alone. The only place you might have some disruption for more than one day would be in London in the area of Westminster.
If you haven't booked your London hotel yet, I would get on it.
Thank you!
It’s too early to say.
The coronation is on the Saturday - I would expect that most places will be closed as their staff will want to see it on tv. Monday has been declared a bank holiday, but unless there are delayed local street parties and celebrations, I would imagine that more places would be open, but probably with more limited Sunday trading hours and Sunday transport timetables.
Being a long weekend, expect touristy places such as the Cotswolds to be busier than usual.
Will you be using public transport? If so, there may be a restricted service that day?
