Hello! New to all this. We are going to Europe in September. How should we get from Edinburg Scotland to London England? Also need to go from Dublin to Belfast and Belfast to Glasgow and Glasgow to Edinburg. Should we rent a car in any of those countries? Should we be booking trains, planes and cars now? Sorry. Too many questions.

I'll just add that The Man in Seat 61 is an excellent resource for the ins and outs of train (and ferry or rail/sail) travel in the UK and between Ireland and the UK. His website will cover so many of the questions that you may have -- https://www.seat61.com/
rome2rio is a good site to give you your options.
You can obtain the answers to your questions in the Rick Steves tour book for the United Kingdom. The book is excellent at guiding you as you travel, gives great places to stay at different price points and restaurants that hare interesting, again at different price points.
15 years ago I took off for my first visit outside the USA and all we had was the RS guidebook and a backpack, turned into the best trip of my life and a passion was born for travel around to world. Also, watch the RS videos of the places you a going, it will enhance your trip and make it more interesting.
London to Edinburgh, the option I've always wanted to take, but haven't yet, is the Caledonian Sleeper. I love night trains (not everyone does).
I took the Caledonia Sleeper last January on the way back from Edinburgh (and the daytime train on the way up). It was fine, but of course you don't see anything at night, and the trip is so short there isn't much time to sleep—especially if you plan to dine in the diner car. But I guess I saved one night's hotel charge. Seat61 recommended getting on the train as soon as they let you so you can stow your bags and get a seat in the dining car before they all fill up. But honestly it wasn't an issue when I took the train—and that was on a Friday night. Maybe it is different in the summer.
Never use Rome2Rio
For an example of the useless information they come up with read the Port Isaac by train thread on here
Re: rome2rio - it’s always a good idea to double check any source and not take it as gospel but it’s a good starting point.
I pretty much echo what Badger said up top.
The man in seat 61 is an excellent resource for any train journey anywhere.
Rome2rio can give you a basic idea but everything must be double checked.
Unless you love to drive, but are going just to the places you mentioned, forget the car.
Train all the way except for Belfast to Glasgow, when you should fly.
Should you rent a car? What do you want to see and how long do you have? A car is useful for rural places.
City to city is easier by train - quicker and no parking hassle. You can’t book trains more than 12 weeks out. You can book flights now if you know your dates. Car hire if required - book now if refundable. If you need an automatic, they are in shorter supply and are more expensive.
P.S. You are the second poster today to call Edinburgh Edinburg! (Sorry, pet hate).
Hi Jennifer. Thanks for the reply and your advice. Sorry about the spelling error. I am a spelling nut so I can relate. I was quickly typing before I went out the door to work. I live in St. Catharines and hate when people spell it Catherines. Train from Scotland to London so long. We were thinking of flying. Thoughts?
Flying won't be much faster (and might be slower) once you add all the faff that comes with flying.
P.S. You are the second poster today to call Edinburgh Edinburg! (Sorry, pet hate).
I see this a lot and I hear many Americans pronounce Edinburgh in the same way that Pittsburgh is pronounced hence the tendency to write Edinburg.
I know there are likely to be several variations on how to pronounce it but a rough guide is to say something similar to "Edinburrr".
Train from Scotland to London so long. We were thinking of flying. Thoughts?
If you're going to London definitely not.
If you're going to Heathrow maybe.
There are many trains each day, some taking less than 4-1/2 hours. With no time needed for traveling to and from the airports, showing up 2 hours early for security procedures, waiting on the plane to deboard and finding your way out of the airport, I can't see how flying could be faster.
Check rail schedules here: www.nationarail.co.uk The Scotrail URL given earlier is also fine.
Train Edinburgh to London is city centre to centre.
Plane is WAY longer with all the added security , check in, getting out there, etc.
Plus Edinburgh Airport is a nightmare.
