Transportation in the Oxford area

Hello folks,

I’m planning for our Spring 26 trip to the UK. Our first stop will be Oxford. One of my motivations for this trip was reminiscing about a time when I lived in Oxford when I was 18. There are two places in the city that I spent a fair amount of time at that will be easy to get to. I remembered a pub that was out in the country (Boar’s Hill) near where I was living called The Fox. It was the first pub I ever went to and the first time I had pub food- a sausage roll. It was amazing. I wondered if The Fox still existed so I googled it. Sure enough, it is still open and has a website. I got inspired and put together a “memory lane” itinerary for one of the Oxford days.
I’m quite sure that we will have to take a taxi/driver/Uber out of Oxford to Boars Hill, have them do a drive by of the house where I lived and drop us at The Fox. After having lunch at the Fox we will need to get back into Oxford and I’m not finding much in the way of bus/coach routes. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks so much

Katie,

The technical answer is that on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday there is a shoppers bus to Abingdon, #42a from Oxford Westgate stop M4 at 1040 and 1325. It stops at the junction into the village before the Fox then in the village before going down to Sunningwell.
No return service apart from a 1300 into Oxford.

It looks like it should be a nice 7km walk back into Oxford via the Jam Mound (what a wonderful name), the Carmelite Monastery and the North Hinksey Conduit House (looks to be one of those minor interesting bits of history).
Sunningwelll Church looks interesting as well, then a short field walk to The Fox.
That is how I would do it.
But a taxi/uber is way more sensible.

I would love to be able to do that walk but unless I get a knee replacement before I go (possible), it will taxi/uber for me
